U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, has ended her bid for Secretary of State. In an effort to avoid a long, drawn out battle with the GOP, Rice telephoned President Obama yesterday afternoon and gave him the news. Although the President has had nothing but the best to say about Rice, he probably knows he sits in a much better position now, with a lot less to worry about. Many Republicans have voiced their criticism of Rice over her handling of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya which killed ambassador Chris Stevens.

After 19 months of marriage, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, are expecting their first child. William and Catherine’s modern day fairytale has brought attention to the modernizing of traditional laws regarding the British monarchy. Recently, changes have been made to the law so that William and Catherine’s first born child can inherit the British throne regardless of its gender.

Just 26 days have passed since the monumental presidential election, and some candidates are already looking ahead to the 2014 Senate Races. Last Thursday, former South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds announced his bid for the US Senate seat that is currently held by Tim Johnson, a Democrat. Representative Shelly Moore Capito, a Republican, also announced that she will run against Senator Jay Rockefellar, a Democrat (Steinhauser).

In the days following the 2012 Presidential election, news broke of the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, David Petraeus, abruptly resigning over an extramarital affair. As of today, further investigation has determined that the affair may actually pose national security threats.
